The NAACP Freedom Fund began in 1953 (on a national level) as a ten-year program to intensify efforts to complete the job of emancipation.  The Freedom Fund tradition has remained alive through events hosted by various branches throughout the country.

The NAACP Boulder County branch’s Freedom Fund event will feature the Nashville African American Wind Symphony (NAAWS).  Bruce Ayers, the founder and music director of NAAWS is the February guest on Black Talk, along with three members of the symphony.  We’ll have the opportunity to learn about the inspiration and passion behind this undertaking – the creation of an all-Black classical music ensemble.  Tune in and learn about Bruce’s musical upbringing, the connection of the symphony members to HBCU, Tennessee State University,  and the love and dedication each member contributes to rehearsals, performances, and to bringing music education and resources to Nashville’s Black community.
