Many cities across the country – but especially in the Front Range – are experiencing a housing crisis, with costs far outpacing the wage hikes. One of the effects has been an increase in homelessness. At the same time, some cities have enacted stricter laws to punish activities associated with not having a home. This criminalization tends to funnel unhoused individuals into the jail or courts systems, but some cities – including Boulder – are also trying a different approach; community court.
