Radio Bookclub: Woman of Light

The August selection for the Radio Bookclub is Woman of Light, the latest novel by Denver author Kali Fajardo-Anstine.

The book tells the tale of Luz “Little Light” Lopez, a tea leaf reader and laundress, who is left to fend for herself. As Luz navigates 1930s Denver, she begins to have visions that transport her to her Indigenous homeland in the nearby Lost Territory. Luz recollects her ancestors’ origins, how her family flourished, and how they were threatened. In the end, it is up to Luz to save her family stories from disappearing into oblivion.

The interview was recorded in front of a live audience at the Boulder Bookstore on July 11, 2022.

Fajardo-Anstine previously visited us at the Radio Bookclub to talk about her collection of short stories, the National Book Award finalist, Sabrina and Corina.

This episode was broadcast on KGNU on Thursday, August 25 at 9 am.

Listen to more of our conversation with Kali Fajardo-Anstine, and hear her answer audience questions at the Boulder Bookstore, in the podcast-only edition Afterhours at the Radio Bookclub.

The Radio Bookclub is a collaboration between KGNU and the Boulder Bookstore. Every month, Arsen Kashkashian, head buyer at the Boulder Bookstore, selects a book to inspire listeners to read along together. The author will then join us for a discussion that airs the fourth Thursday of every month at 9am.
