As Coloradans hit the trails this summer, the fear of ticks may loom in the back of many of their minds.
Ticks are blood-sucking pests that are notorious for carrying Lyme disease and a lot of myths about what they are and how to avoid them.
KGNU’S Alexis Kenyon spoke with Dr. Jean Tsao of Michigan State University to get her tick facts straight and then she grilled a few of KGNU’s news interns on their tick knowledge.
If you get bitten by a tick, be sure to take a picture of it or put it in a sealed ziplock bag so that your healthcare officials can identify your risk of being infected with a tick-borne disease. Also, visit your state’s health department website to get tick-identifier cards and more information.
