Four new councilmembers and two who were re-elected by voters to the nine-member board on November 5th, held their first meeting of the new term last night. KGNU’s Roz Brown says in addition to agenda items, the meeting also required selection of a new mayor, which was not without considerable controversy.
At its meeting on Tuesday evening, Boulder City Council elected Sam Weaver to be mayor. Bob Yates will be mayor pro tem. Weaver was first elected to the council in 2013 and was reelected in 2017. The council’s action came after several speakers told the council that a member who is not a white man should be selected as mayor.
The Council also approved a list of policy positions for which the city will lobby both state and federal lawmakers.
