On Tuesday January 8th, Jared Polis (D) was sworn in as Governor of Colorado. Polis is the first openly gay person ever elected as governor anywhere in the US.

Terry Knight, spiritual leader from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe bestowed a blessing on the new Governor and the state of Colorado.

Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court Nathan Coats administered the oaths of office, first to Jena Griswold who was sworn into office as Secretary of State, the first Democrat to hold that office since 1963. Then State Treasurer Dave Young and Attorney General Phil Weiser, both Democrats, were sworn in.
With his husband Marlon Reis by his side , Jared Polis was sworn in as the 43rd Governor of the State of Colorado.
Before making his speech, Governor Polis took a selfie with the crowd and shared it by twitter.
Polis is expected to give his inaugural state of the state address on Thursday January 10th at 11am in which he is expected to layout his legislative priorities.
As a result of the ceremony there will be several road closures in effect until 8pm on Tuesday in and around the state capitol in Denver including:
Lincoln Street from 13th to Colfax.
Sherman Street from 13th to 14th Avenues.
14th Avenue from Broadway to Grant Street.
Lane closures on Grant Street from Colfax to 14th Avenues.
Roads are expected to reopen at 8.00pm on Tuesday.
