Hickenlooper Signs Broadband Bill

Governor Hickenlooper has signed a bill that will provide funding to expand high-speed internet in rural areas of the state. Supporters say fast internet service is critical for telemedicine, public schools and farmers. Democratic Senator Kerry Donovan is also working on other measures to improve rural economies…

“It is surprising to have seen the progress we made this year after hitting so many dead ends over previous sessions, so it’s very exciting but we can’t stop here we still have a lot to do but this is a great start”

The bill will take money from a fund that has subsidized rural telephone service and invest it in broadband construction over a five-year period ending in 2023. It’s estimated that more than $115 million dollars will go into broadband grants between 2019 and 2023.
