Showing Up for Racial Justice

“The call to action from national, black led organizations has been that white people must educate fellow white people.” -Marissa Hallo Tafura of Boulder SURJ

Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) is a national organization that educates the white public about institutionalized racism, bias, and micro-aggressions towards black citizens. Boulder SURJ recently had 270 people attend a meeting due to a number of high profile deaths of black people at the hands of police.

“We felt it was really important for us to take a vocal stance at this time because of the killings of Alton Sterling and Filando Castile and several deaths that followed just a few days after.”

Elena Klaver speaks to Marisso Hallo Tafura about the Boulder SURJ meeting and their role in activism regarding racism and how local people can help.
