12 year old Jacob McNab is in 7th grade in Westlake Middle School in Broomfield. He is one of 39 Kid Reporters who will report “news for kids, by kids” throughout 2017 with coverage of breaking news, entertainment stories, and sports events from his hometown, as part of the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps.
He told KGNU’s Maeve Conran that he plans on covering business stories and sports news.
“I would like to do stock market stories and I would also like to do some stories on stores that are thriving or (if) something big happened to them.”
In his application to be part of the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, Jacob wrote about a Westminster non-profit that re-purposes toys for children with disabilities. “It was about Santa’s Little Hackers. It’s an organization that modifies toys so that kids with special needs can use them.”
Jacob says that would like to be a journalist when he is older and he sees his work with Scholastic as a good opportunity for him to improve his writing skills “it’s exciting and I’m proud of myself and I can’t wait to get writing.” Jacob McNab expects his first story to be published in January 2017.
