“The quality of Amy’s investigative reporting is exactly the antidote that we need to falsified information.”
The Alliance for Sustainable Colorado Center in Denver is honoring Amy Goodman with their Heroes of Sustainability Award on Wednesday April 20th. John Powers, President of the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado says the award is part of their Truth in Media Series which runs through 2016.
Powers says the origin of the Truth in Media series came from the falsified videos attacking Planned Parenthood that led to discussions at a federal and state level over de-funding Planned Parenthood.
“It really disturbed me deeply that our elected representatives, federal and state, could go after Planned Parenthood on known falsified information. So if people could make decisions, and they certainly should be held accountable for making their decisions based on falsified information, one can complain about that problem, but the necessity is to offer a solution. I think that independent and non-profit investigative reporting, those media, the new media, are the solution to that problem. Hence the origin of Truth in Media.”
Powers says that Amy Goodman is at the pinnacle of independent media and thus plays a crucial role in bringing voices speaking truth to the national airwaves. “I think the quality of Amy’s investigative reporting is exactly the antidote that we need to falsified information.”
Amy Goodman will do a book signing and talk at the Alliance Center,1536 Wynkoop St., Denver on Tuesday, April 19 at 5:30 pm.
On Thursday April 21st at 7.30pm, Amy Goodman will speak at a benefit for KGNU at the Boulder Theater.
