The Death Penalty Through Photos

“We definitely are seeing a shift in this country in terms of the declining support of the death penalty
and executions.”

For many years Scott Langley has taken photographs at events surrounding the death penalty in his effort to bring awareness and critical thinking to the issue.

Using stark images, Langley portrays the human side of the death penalty that he argues is lost, as the media is limited to non-visual methods of reporting the executions.

His broad range of allies and supporters include Amnesty International and the Roman Catholic Church, as well as various other organizations and religious groups seeking to abolish the death penalty.

Capital punishment remains legal in Colorado, along with 30 other states. However, Langley says that there have been recent waves of support against the death penalty, with Colorado on the cusp of a decision on capital punishment in this state.

Scott Langley will be showing photographs from his documentary project, June 17th at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, at an annual awards dinner hosted by Coloradans For Alternatives To The Death Penalty.
