“We’re very, very diligent to these issues of race in America.”

Gil AsakawaGil Asakawa, a board member with the Mile High Japanese American Citizens League says one of the legacies of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II is a heightened awareness of racism towards others.

On February 19th, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive order 9066 which ultimately lead to the internment of 120,000 Japanese Americans, half of which were American citizens, in 9 camps throughout the US, including one camp in Southern Colorado.

Sunday February 15th the Mile High Japanese American Citizens League is hosting a Day of Remembrance at the History Colorado Center in Denver.
