In September of 2014, University of Colorado students in Boulder held a rally and then attended a Regent meeting to participate in the public comment session calling on officials to divest from the fossil fuel industry. All wearing orange t-shirts and carrying signs, this was just one of the actions that KGNU has covered of students taking action to achieve their goal. On Valentine’s Day last year, students road the RTD bus to the Denver campus carrying valentines and heart-shaped balloons calling on financial officials to divest.
At the September Regent’s meeting CU student PD Gancert told KGNU why rally participants booed at the name of Bruce Bensen, president of the University. Isaac Rivera organizes with 350.org and participates in the nationwide student divestment movement and we also speak with Alana Parthemer who also participated in September’s action.
CU student Simon Mostafa presented the students’ positions at CU during the public comment session of the Regent board meeting. In this story we hear Regent response to the students and we speak to Mostafa as well as to Regent Michael Carrigan who responded to each other’s comments.
And finally we speak to Frankie Navarette who has been a student organizer with Fossil Free CU and told KGNU about what’s coming up this year in the student divestment movement and how students will not back down from their call.
